What Is Hemodialysis?
Hemodialysis is a treatment method in which blood is filtered outside the patient’s body using a dialysis machine. During hemodialysis, blood is withdrawn from a blood vessel and passes through a synthetic filter known as a dialyzer. In the dialyzer, the blood is cleaned before being returned to the patient’s body. For this reason, the dialyzer is also called an “artificial kidney.” Hemodialysis is usually performed three times per week, for at least four hours each time, usually at a dialysis center.
A hemodialysis machine is specialized medical equipment used in hemodialysis to help filter and remove toxins from a patient’s body.
